Description

Millet is the name given to a group of cereals other than wheat, rice, maize and barley. They are mostly tiny in size, round in shape and ready for usage without having to dehull. 

Millets are rising in importance as healthful whole grains that are gluten free, non-acid forming, nutrient dense, and have low glycemic index. Due to the many health enhancing properties, millets are becoming an important ingredient in combating lifestyle diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disorders, obesity, and more.

Millets do not demand synthetic fertilizers and are free of pest infestations. In fact, under dry land conditions, millets grow better in the absence of chemical fertilizers. Therefore, most millet farmers grow them using farmyard manure under purely ecofriendly conditions. These practices make millet production not only ecofriendly but also controllable by the farmers. Growing and eating millets is a step towards sustainable cropping practices, which introducing more diversity into our diet and preserving the veritable bounty of nature.
